Back on the 19th September, the community came together for the West View Clean-Up Day, and what a wonderful morning it was!

The event was full of litter picking (and our silent disco litter picking), crafts, community conversations, soup, and cuppas, bringing neighbours of all ages together to care for our area and celebrate the strength of community spirit. Weeks later, we’re still feeling the warmth and pride from that day.

From proudly collecting litter to residents chatting over a hot drink, the day was a reminder that community care starts with simple acts of kindness and shared effort. Beyond the tidier streets, it was the sense of connection, teamwork, and belonging that really made an impact.

We were joined and supported by so many brilliant local organisations- West View Advice and Resource Centre, West View Baptist Church, Hartlepool CLIP, Hartlepool Borough Council, West View Primary School, Thirteen Housing, Home Group, Hartlepool Big Town Tidy Up, Contego, Silent Steppers, Hartlepool Community Trust, and many more. Their support and collaboration made the day possible and memorable.

Thank you to everyone who gave their time, shared a smile, or lent a hand. The West View community truly showed what’s possible when we come together- and the difference still shows, weeks later.

🌼 Building Community in West View 🌼

This is just the start of us coming together in West View to make some positive changes.

As part of Thrive and the Hartlepool Poverty Truth Commission, we want to continue developing and supporting community members to take ownership of their streets and green spaces– empowering local people to take action, work alongside town leaders, identify local issues, and find solutions together.

Our long-term goal is to develop and sustain a Community Guardian project, where passionate local residents can take ownership of shared spaces, helping to maintain them, report any issues, and keep them welcoming and cared for by and for the community. 🌿

Our recent Community Clean-Up Day connects beautifully with our Say It With Flowers project- both celebrating community pride, creativity, and collective action to make West View brighter and more vibrant. 🌸

This work is ongoing, with the Community Spaces group within the Hartlepool Poverty Truth Commission, continuing to meet regularly to drive this vision forward and support positive, lasting change across the town. 💪💚
