APLE Collective

Addressing Poverty With Lived Experience

The APLE Collective aims to create a sustainable grassroots network across the UK, to raise awareness of poverty, reduce stigma and work together to affect change.

In February of 2018 members from groups all across the UK met up in York and decided they would like to start to meet together regularly to look at ways of working together. These groups are Thrive Teesside, ATD 4th World, Dole Animators, Hope Rising Action Group, Salford PTC, West Cheshire PTC, Community Pride CIC and Expert Citizens.

In April 2018, with help from facilitators at Turning The Tide we had some thoughts about the benefits of coming together and what we might like to achieve:

  • Shared mission and values
  • Network of connections
  • Share knowledge
  • Support each other when needed
  • National exposure- On shared issues coming up across the groups
  • Change the Story- Change media stories to be focused on the lived experience.

In June of 2018 we decided the vision statement for the group and in July we started to plan to coordinate events across the UK that would raise awareness of The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17th 2018.
